Looks like yesterday and tomorrow as well as the next four days as Anne tries to get as many coats of vanish on the window frames as she can before they need to go on the boat.

Anne and I finally got a little work done on the cabin windows
Next, a trip to the fish market, the pelicans were there first.
The fish market is great, I love the variety.

Anne's Cesar salad, con pollo from the original Mexican recipe.
The new special on board Mucho Gusto.
Mexican food, did you know the Cesar Salad was first made in Mexico? Well it was and it is our favorite dish so far. They have a nice French Restaurant in Ensenada that makes a great one. So it's a little pricey and Anne has seen them make it so now we will be making it on the boat. So looking for Anchovies. We went to all the markets and the fish market today trying to find them, no joy. I suggested we go to the Del Rey Sol that we got the salad at and ask them, they said the grocery store of course. I told them we had been to all the grocery stores in town, really they said, how strange. Go to Walmart that is where I go. A bus ride out of town we get to Walmart, and yes they had them, three kinds.
Another first, the bus stopped at 7-11 for gas.

So after talking to my job managers I found the real story, San Diego was named for the Catholic Saint Didacus.
When is Saint Didacus day?

Anne and I were on a mission, as there are many Missions in California, this was our mission. A visit to the IRS, West Marine, Downwind Marine, Union Bank, and Ralph's. Total time less than 12 hrs, on 2 trains, 2 buses going, 2 trains, 3 buses coming back, oh yes a cab going. And we spent less than 1/2 boat unit on stuff. We did pick up a cashiers check for the boat paint job, that is kinda painful. Multiple boat units.
Speaking of painful, the bus ride back was really bad, not only was it a rather under maintained bus but we were in the back with a really bad odor from the rest room. Anne just reminded me that she was rather nervous on the ride up as it started with the bus driver making the sign of the cross, pictures of Our Lady of Guadalupe all around, a kiss to his hand and pointing to heaven, as if we were going to need divine intervention to get to our destination.

Some of you might be familiar with my other blog http://learnfrenchavecmoi.blogspot.com
Well today we have a little" Learn Spanish Con Yo"
Friday we went  traveling, a little sight seeing trip. We found this great town up north, and like so many of the Mexican towns it starts with San, some start with Santa, one being masculine the other feminine. It means saint. Anyway, we found this little town, kinda of a big city actually named after Saint Juan Diego. It is really a mecca for expats. Filled with Americans English seems to be a second language there, almost everyone speaks it.
Funny with all my years in Catholic school I don't remember any stories about Juan Diego. Well here it is.
St. Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin[1] (1474–1548) is the first Roman Catholic indigenous American saint.[2] He is said to have been granted an apparition of the Virgin Mary on four separate occasions in December 1531 at the hill of Tepeyac, then outside but now well within metropolitan Mexico City. The Basilica of Guadalupe located at the foot of the hill of Tepeyac claims to possess Juan Diego's mantle or cloak (known as a tilma) on which an image of the Virgin is said to have been impressed by a miracle as a pledge of the authenticity of the apparitions. These apparitions and the imparting of the miraculous image (together known as the Guadalupe event, in Spanish "el acontecimiento Guadalupano") are the basis of the cult of Our Lady of Guadalupe which is ubiquitous in Mexico, prevalent throughout the Spanish-speaking Americas, and increasingly widespread beyond.[3] As a result, the Basilica of Guadalupe is now the world's major centre of pilgrimage for Roman Catholics, receiving 22 million visitors in 2010, the vast bulk of whom were pilgrims.[4] Juan Diego was beatified in 1990, and canonized in 2002.
Ok I get it he is new. I of course know about " Our Lady of Guadalupe".
I guess Mexico gave him sainthood years earlier.

Theory of relativity, the month traveling from San Francisco to San Diego, way too short.
The month in the boatyard in Ensenada, much too long. And it's only been three weeks.
Can't wait to get out of here.
The boat will be very nice, is the good news. Bad news the bank account is getting smaller. Good news Sebastien has a job, maybe he will send us money although Kevin Mc Clay having two kids of his own told me it doesn't really work that way. Don't worry Seb we are fine.

 Ungaro surveys the new paint
Then the taggers arrive, they do this to make sure they sand the primer everywhere.

Primer on the top side today as well as the stern and misc pieces.

In the last pictures you might notice that the name is gone on the side of the boat. We put the name on the tender with the new look, Bible Script is the font. Should look a little more modern. A new stripe scheme will be painted as well.
When your boat is named Mucho Gusto Mexico expects you to have a little bigger courtesy flag, to compare the regular one is halfway up the mast on the right.
Big focus on hull numbers, it has become a daily project for all the boats.
Ungaro, aka Senior Flojo, getting a little interested in the local bird life.
Sunset in the boat yard.

Naked boat

Mucho striped down and sand blasted, hot day with sand in the boat not fun.

Ungaro's big day off the boat.

Great spot to hang out and meet people.

Cat really loves his travel bag, seems to be in it whenever we are looking for him.
 Helping out on the blog.

Modifying the tree trunk a little
Well we are all rapped up. Getting ready for our first spray of paint
You can see they have done a lot of sanding, adding fairing compound to get it really smooth.

Escaping the boat before they start spraying, a little toxic.

 This is the primer coat.
This is the primer coat reflected in the beautiful blue paint job on the boat next to us.

Well we are in the not so fun part of the trip. Getting the boat painted, living in a boatyard. The cat needs to go for his walks so getting him off the boat, we put him in his little carrier and lower him down.
Getting back is no problem. The guys in the yard love the fact that the cat walks on the leash they are just as impressed by his ability to go up the ladder.

Anne going shopping in her dream car.
Anne impressed Mike and Terry with the food, shopping in the Mustang works well.

Thursday, January 2, 2014

Another great day of sea mammals. Entries will be slowing down as we are running low on gigabites and we will soon be in Mexico working on the boat for a few weeks. Should have Mexican Gigabits for the rest of the trip but connections might be thin.

Forgot to mention, we had a whale sighting yesterday also. I think we have seen one everyday since we left San Francisco.
